Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch is an incredibly picturesque region located at the southeastern tip of the African continent, about 50 km from Cape Town. It is also called Eikestad - the Town of Oaks. The region is situated by False Bay, among the Cederberg mountain ranges. The climate, similar to the Mediterranean, is favorable for viticulture - warm, maritime with cool and rainy winters and dry, hot summers, as well as diverse soils (nearly 50 different types, including alluvial, sandy, granite, clay). Numerous grape varieties are grown here. White - chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, cape riesling, colombard, semillon, and among reds - cabernet sauvignon, pinotage, merlot, shiraz. Today, the Stellenbosch region is primarily known for producing excellent wines.
Chenin Blanc
This is a white grape variety initially cultivated in France, in Anjou, in the Loire Valley. The first mentions of this grape variety date back to the 9th century. Wines produced from grapes of the Chenin Blanc variety are characterized by floral and fruity aromas, light acidity, and delicate honey notes detected in the taste, as well as apple, pear, quince, peach, pineapple, melon, and even mango and passion fruit. Chenin Blanc is a versatile variety. It works excellently for producing dry wines, as well as sparkling or dessert wines. Currently, Chenin Blanc is one of the most recognizable grape varieties worldwide. It is grown among other places in France, South Africa, California, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Canada, and Spain.
